🔧 Frequently Asked Questions & Troubleshooting
Q: The app asks for Microphone permission—why?
Unplugged Recorder requires microphone access exclusively to record your audio stories. Recordings are saved 100% locally on your iPad or iPhone and are never uploaded to any server or cloud service.
Q: How do I save recordings directly to an external USB drive or HDD?
Plug your USB-C hard drive, SSD, or SD card reader into your iPad or iPhone. Open Settings (gear icon) > Recording Target & Storage, and tap "Choose External Drive / Folder...". Select your drive's folder. Unplugged Recorder will automatically mirror all recordings with clean human-readable filenames (e.g. The Dragon Cave.wav) onto the drive while preserving a local safety copy.
Q: Can I send my stories into Unplugged Podcast Maker?
Yes! Tap any book on your shelf to open its details, tap the Share button, and tap Unplugged Podcast Maker. Your recording will automatically open inside Podcast Maker as a vocal track ready for background music, sound effects, and custom album art!
Q: I accidentally deleted a story—can I get it back?
Yes! Open Settings > Recently Deleted Bin. All deleted recordings remain safe for 15 days before permanent removal. Tap "Restore" on any story to put it right back on your Story Shelf.
Q: What is the difference between Studio WAV and Compact M4A?
By default, stories are recorded in high-quality AAC/M4A (compact file size, ideal for saving storage space). In Settings, you can enable Lossless Studio WAV to record uncompressed 44.1 kHz 16-bit linear PCM audio for maximum studio fidelity.
